Birds of Costa Rica
With Noel and Luis, a friend of Noels, I had the opportunity to join in four surveys for the Dept of Conservation. They were wonderful experiences indeed. The link to Noels Tropical Feathers Birding website is at the top of this page.
Enjoy.
Chestnut-backed Antbird at Los Cosingos, Costa Rica. I heard these guys deep in the underbrush on one of the trails so decided to imitate them. Normally I am so bad at bird songs that I am usually ignored by my intended target.
In this case for some reason the small group I was calling took umbrage with my accent and came tearing through the jungle to throughly scold me. About four of them I think. They spent at least fifteen minutes giving me the business then moved off.
Noel Ureña tells me that this time of year (March) they can get very territorial.
At any rate I was thrilled to get this shot even though it was as dark as pitch and the camera just did not want to autofocus in that light. A lucky shot I guess!
