Kingfisher at Charleson park, Vancouver. I think this is the same individual that hangs around our marina since Charelson park is a stones throw away. He/she was actually hanging around with another one for about two weeks. I've never seen Kingfishers willing to hang out together. They always seem to be squabbling and chasing each other off their turf. While these two were buddies they went against another normal kingfisher behavior and showed no fear of people. At one point I found them under a building dock at low tide in the Marina . I actually got up to within about eight feet of them. They even seemed reluctant to relocate. Like I said this seemed to go on for about two weeks which is when I managed to grab this shot. I moved a step at a time and would fire off some shots then take another step. If Kingfishers can be amused this one seemed to be with me. I suspect that I could have just walked up to it. However it watched me jump through the hoops until I was about fifteen feet away then casually flew over to the other side of the pond. I got a lot of shots over that two weeks but I think this one is my favorite.
